1 John is written by the last surviving apostle who had intimate, eyewitness association with Jesus throughout His earthly ministry, death, resurrection, and ascension. He wrote this letter in the late 1st century to combat the beginnings of a heresy known as Gnosticism that was threatening the fundamentals of the Christian faith and the early churches.

In this first chapter, John provides a series of foundational truths to test yourself and others to see if the truth is evident in one's life.
